  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. Why are Traditional Journalists Upset With Online Article Writers?

Online Article Writing: Why Are Traditional Journalists so Upset?

Anybody with a computer and internet connection can write online articles and become a' journalist.'  You can be an independent media source without anyone's permission. It's a tradition that mirrors the early days of African American newspapers when writers could not depend on mainstream media to tell the whole story.

In some cases, you can earn money from your writing. That income may never reach the big bucks level, but income possibilities are there. It's a new opportunity for so many people to be heard. Why does this new generation of independent writers make traditional journalists a little bit upset? Well, it's because anyone can do it.

Online Article Writing: No More Control Over What The World Sees

The Internet is a big place. There's room for everyone; so no one should feel threatened when someone else writes. Most major news sources have their own online newspapers with their own professional journalists running the show. Still that privileged few have lost the stranglehold on what you as a reader can and cannot see.

Anybody on the street can write an article or simply post an opinion online for the rest of the world to see. That undedited freedom threatens some traditional media outlets.

Online Article Writing: What Can You Write About?

The internet provides a wealth of opportunities for the fledgling writer to publish and be heard. What can you write?

DIY Articles - You can write articles about your personal or professional  expertise. The information you share may bring customers to your online business.

Prose & Poetry - You can write a haiku or the story of your life if you choose. You can share with the world long before a brick and mortar publisher gets the word out in print.

Local News -Where to eat, where to shop, what's happening? There's a new focus on "hyperlocal" information. You can share what you know about your community. Write "breaking news" if you're in the right place at the right time.

Politics - Everybody has something to say about President Obama, the Tea Party, the Republicans and the Democrats.  Write about it an say what you want to say.

The bottom line is that you get to decide what the world reads. You can share breaking news.

Online Article Writing: Where Can You Write?

If you decide you want to write, you can submit articles to Yahoo! Contributor Network , Seed.com, Helium.com  Demand Studions and many other article writing sites that will pay you for your efforts. You won't make the big bucks, but in time you can build residual income from your library of titles.

Next time I'll write about some of my personal online writing experiences.
