  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

This election is about THE ALTERNATIVE, STUPID!

This election is about THE ALTERNATIVE, STUPID!

If the Republicans win the House and Senate, YOU WON'T LIKE THE ALTERNATIVE.

Here is what they say they will do.

1. Repeal the health-care law
2. Freeze the hiring of non-security federal employees
3. Cut Congress's budget
4. End increases on most domestic spending programs
5. Stop any additional spending under the Troubled Assets Relief Program
6. Stop any spending on last year's economic stimulus package
7. Keep in place tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 -- unfunded at a cost of $3 trillion
8. Reduce regulations by federal agencies on businesses
9. Allow small businesses to deduct up to 20 percent of their business income.
10. Republicans say that, by getting rid of regulations and reducing taxes, more businesses would start hiring workers, thereby aiding the economy.

These policies led to the recession, and Americans lost 8 million jobs in the 8 years before Obama's election.

Vote for the Democratic candidates who will support the Obama agenda.  Here is what he has accomplished.

  1. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 -- saved or created 3 million jobs.
  2. Credit CARD Act of 2009 -- prevents credit card ripoffs and hidden fees.
  3. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act  -- Makes health care accessible for 30 million more citizens.
  4.  Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act -- Protects against Wall Street abuses that led to the recession, and creates a Consumer Protection Agency.
  5. Small Business Jobs Bill -- Enacts 8 new tax cuts for small businesses to help stimulate job creation.

President Obama will end tax cuts for the rich, and retain tax cuts for those earning less that $250,000.  See  The White House White Board.

This election is a BIG DEAL!  NO VOTE.  NO VOICE.
