  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

NAACP Theatre Awards

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At Bottom Of Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again (smile)

The NAACP, long renown as one of America's premier civil rights organizations, saluted Black theatre this week in Hollywood California, at the Kodak Theatre. The NAACP in fulfilling it's mission to advance and promote Black culture, presented the best in Black theatre at the 18th Annual, NAACP Theatre Awards.

Black theatre plays a major role in the training, nurturing and producing of Black talent, and more importantly creating unique Black "Content". There is no entertainment magic, like live theatre. The Theatre Awards, showcases the best and the brightest of this art form

Most of us think of NY's famed Broadway when we hear the word "Theatre", but the truth of the matter is that America has a large and thriving Black theatrical circuit. Every urban center produces, original Black plays and talent. The Theatre Awards lifts this urban market to national prominence.

Beyond the glitz and glamour of a celebrity filled Hollywood awards show (see slide show link below), the NAACP Theatre Awards presented live performances of the best Black plays in America; Ray - The Musical, and The Color Purple. Ray, The Color Purple, and Jitney, were the top award winners.

Dancing with the Stars and R&B idol, Mario rocked the house. It was amazing to see the cadre and caliber of Black celebrity attendee's. Vivica A. Fox received the Spirit Award. Legendary Broadway conductor/arranger Harold Wheeler was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

We're always talking about the way Black culture is negatively presented in the media. Well here for all the world to see, was the elite of Black theatre, on one stage. The NAACP is truly doing good work in representing and promoting Black culture, or as their motto says...Advancing Colored People!

Please continue to support the NAACP and Black theatre in your local community. Your dollars, volunteerism, and participation make events like the 18th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards possible....Support Black Theatre!!!
