  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

How To Sell Effectively Online: 5 Basic Tips

How To Sell Effectively Online: 5 Basic Tips

I am positively not a salesperson by nature. I'm not even a 'shopper' in the sense of getting excited with an invitation to 'shop til you drop!' However, I am a savvy consumer and take great pride in exploring the options of price, style, accessibility and practicality when purchasing just about everything. So with that type of background coupled with my early savings [“Follow The Frugal”] training, the very word 'salesmanship' used to generate a block in my mind. The very nature of business, especially online business where making an awesome first impression is absolutely crucial for attracting and retaining customers, involves outstanding salesmanship. It can be said that every time we meet a new person [and even those we already know] we must exercise personal 'salesmanship' in a way that portrays our inner self in the best light.

There is an extreme advantage in mastering the ART of selling, In order to be able to put into words the five basic tips that have helped me become a successful internet business person, I've spent the last week revisiting effective internet sales strategies and overall business methods. To my lasting improvement and in undying gratitude I've re-internalized the following and wish to share them with you:

1. Develop the ability to see your services, products or goods from the view point of your prospects and customers. THEY may actually enjoy hearing or reading a friendly, concise and passionate description of what you're offering. Some may even WANT to be convinced, cajoled and/or entertained in order to make a decision to buy from you.

2. Create a captivating NAME for your product, services or goods. In other words make sure your business name AND your product, etc. name(s) paints an intriguing picture in the minds of your prospects and customers.

3. Get interested in learning how SUCCESSFUL online businesses present their products, goods and services. Look at the competition and see how you can improve your presentation and sales pitch to out sell them!

4. KNOW your product! The old saying, “To Know me is to Love me!” really applies when it comes to selling your products, services and goods! When you know your 'stuff' and have a genuine love, along with a strong sense of the market value, for it you can easily communicate that to others!

5. Be REPUTABLE – if you offer warranties, refunds or guarantees make sure you honor them if your customers' have a need for them. It's also an effective selling point to state you stand by your products and then do so! A good reputation which is based on TRUST will keep you in business and have your customers returning while they provide valuable word-of-mouth advertising to people they know.

Being in business, especially for entry level entrepreneurs, requires a strong desire to present the best you have to offer. Your services, goods and products; your interest in providing excellent customer service and your technical knowledge and skills in your area of expertise all are necessary ingredients that leave a sweet taste in the mouth of your customers when they buy from you're online business.
