Civil Rights Activist And Diplomat, Andrew Jackson Young, Jr. Was Elected Congressman From Georgia On November 7, 1972.

From 1972 To 1977 He Served In The U.S. House Of Representatives For Georgia, One Of The Deep South's First Black Congress Members Since Reconstruction.

Andrew Young, Was Born March 12, 1932, In New Orleans, LA.

An Ordained Minister And Advocate Of Nonviolent Change, He Was Active In The Civil Rights Movement Of The 1950's And 1960's. He Was Also One Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Chief Associates.

In 1977 He Was Named Ambassador To The United Nations, A Cabinet-Level Post Under The Carter Administration. Young Was The First African American To Hold That Position.

Young Was Later Pressured Into Resigning From His U.N. Assignment Because Of A Secret Meeting He Held With The Palestinian Liberation Organization, In Violation Of U.S. Policy.

He Served As Mayor Of Atlanta From 1982 Until 1990, When He Made An Unsuccessful Run For Governor Of Georgia.

From 2000 - 2001, He Served As President Of The National Council Of Churches.
