Archie A. Alexander, Architectural Engineer And Former Governor Of The Virgin Islands, Died On December 4, 1958, At The Age Of 69.
He Had Been Appointed Governor Of The Virgin Islands By President Dwight Eisenhower In 1954. His Term Was Short, However, As He Was Forced To Resign From The Post In 1955, Due To Ill health.
The Son Of A Coachman, Alexander Earned An Engineering Degree From The State University Of Iowa, Where He Also Played Football. He Later Became Coowner Of The Construction Firm, Alexander & Repass, With Offices In New York And Washington, DC.
In 1928 He Was Awarded The NAACP's Spingarn Medal For Being An Outstanding Businessman.
