St. Luke Bank Was Founded And Operated By Maggie Lena Walker. It Was The First Bank In America To Be Run By A Woman.
A True Entrepreneur, Walker Also Owned A Printing Plant, Office Building And Other Businesses. She Also Edited A Newspaper.
It's Said That Black Residents Enjoyed Having A Successful Black Business Woman In The Community. They Liked To Watch As She Rode Around Town In A Chauffeur-Driven Limousine.
Walker Died In 1934, At The Age Of 69. Her House At 110A East Leigh Street In Richmond, Virginia, Was Designated A National Historic Landmark.
