President-Elect Barack Obama Plays For Black History Month

Juba Books Releases New Book of Cultural Plays For Today's Youth

Dallas, TX (January 16, 2009) -- In celebration of America's historic presidential election, Juba Books is proud to release Positive African American Plays for Children Book 3. It features the play script, "I Have A Promise," about President-elect Barack Obama's younger life up to his election victory. Leading characters of other scripts in the new book include Condoleezza Rice, Cullen Jones, Missy Elliot, and Reginald Lewis.

From becoming the first African American President of the United States to an Olympic gold medalist swimmer, the scripts in the new book encourage young people to step into history's shoes and dream big beyond race or color.

In the fashion of the evening news, each play starts with two reporters giving the news about a current event involving the main character. The next scenes take the audience back to past events and people influential to the character's success. The plays' main goal is to help young people understand how current actions, choices, and attitudes dramatically affect their future and the society around them.

"We pride ourselves on having worked hard to fill the void in black-oriented children play scripts," says Jeffery Bradley. "A good play can fire up a child's imagination," he says, "change his or her attitude, or spark an interest and motivation that did not exist before. We hope the scripts, about President Elect Barack Obama and others in the book motivate children to excellence and inspire us all to achieve greatness."

There is much emphasis on person to person conversation in each play which allows directors the freedom to adjust the settings to their individual tastes or environment. Sentences are short but powerful so young actors won't have any difficulty remembering lines or following stage directions. The plays are suitable for schools, backyards, churches, boys and girls clubs, or any place children gather.

Positive African American Plays For Children Book 3 is available in paperback, on CD, and e-book version. . You can read a sample of the play "I Have A Promise" athttp://www.AfricanAmericanChildrenPlays.com
