During National Women's History
Month, we are featuring some of the prominent Black Women entrepreneurs who
have been meaningful to our historical journey as an online community. Our
featured woman this week is Beverly Mahone. As a fellow Baby Boomer, I am
fascinated by the energetic honesty Beverly brings to discussions about this
generation.
Beverly
Mahone
Journalist, Author,
Boomer Diva
I am a wife, mother and
grandmother who decided to leave Corporate America after more than 25 years (in
radio/television news) to pursue my passions. I decided it was time to
step out on faith and pursue my desire to become a published author.
In June 2006, my debut
non-fiction book, Whatever!
A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age was
published. The book takes a look at issues affecting baby boomer women,
including menopause, dating after 40, raising children, midlife employment
issues and aging gracefully. Renowned Poet and Author Nikki Giovanni has
endorsed the book calling it "The right story at the right
time."
In the summer of 2007, I began
a I'm still
Hot...it just comes in Flashes now! Summer Book Tour
with a platform of bringing menopause out of the closet. Also in
the summer of 2007, I published my first ebook titled Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This. The
ebook is a collection of essays written by myself and fellow baby boomers who
reminisce about the very important, but often ignored, advice from dear sweet
mom.
In January 2008, I founded a
group called Boomer
Diva Nation. We are a diverse group of women, 40 and
beyond, who are on the move and making a difference in our personal and
professional lives. We bring a variety of resources to the table
and are a source of inspiration for each other.
I am married for the second
time to a wonderful man (I got it RIGHT this time!!!) and I thank God daily for
opening my eyes to see what's real when it comes to men.
Her latest book is How to Get on the News Without
Committing Murder. This book is for those of you who
are "seasoned" in just about everything but how to get the kind
of publicity that will make you stand out in a crowded field--and you
don't have to murder anyone to get media exposure!
Beverly currently hosts a radio
show called The Boomer
Beat on WCOM Radio 103.5FM in Carrboro, NC and the Boomer Beat TV Show
in Durham and Chapel Hill. She resides in NC with her husband and
grandson. Beverly describes herself as a woman on the move who has a
passion for God and family.
