  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. Don't Be Stupid

Don't be stupid about ignoring symptoms and neglecting your health.  Be aware there are many negative health aspects confronting us everyday, no matter where we are.  Pollution in the air and foods, and water we consume, cannot be avoided.

Working in health care I see many ill and sick people everyday, believe me you really don't want to wait until you end up in the hospital due many times to ignorantly avoiding seeking medical help sooner for symptoms neglected.  Doctors are forced to perform various tests do to litagation concerns. So your simple hospital stay may turn into a more extended visit. Not to mention the excessive costs involved with hospital treatment.

Avoid this problem by preventing illness, beginning with a healthy diet, exercise, drinking fluids particularly water, or green tea, fresh juicing, appropriate vitamins and supplements, limiting stress and getting appropriate rest.  If you are in a stressful situation you need to try and resolve it, stress wears you down and is robbing your life.

Stay current on new natural therapies and supplements, look into martial arts, yoga activities or things you like that relax and ease the mind and can also keep you in shape.  Be aware of your body, examine yourself in the shower or bathroom, take note of any changes like lumps, swelling and inflammation, if anything hurts or persists after a few days seek medical counsel.  Take care of yourself, it's the only you...you have, be smart and try to stay healthy!
