Give them the power to pursue their dreams!
-- Help urban youth become entrepreneurs
|
A group of urban teenagers from the south side of Columbus, OH have teamed up to launch a start-up business venture to learn entrepreneurship, leadership, business and finance skills they plan to carry on with them to college and beyond. The proudly named "Thunder Team" are members of the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus - South Side, which has partnered with Junior Achievement of Central Ohio (JACO) to teach them how to start and run a business.
This program is led by Roger Madison, a retired IBMer and JACO volunteer.
Through this program, each team member will learn entrepreneurial skills and gain knowledge on selecting a product, capitalizing a business idea, selling, marketing, and delivering a product or service. The students will also learn invaluable life skills needed in their future professional and personal life. These include public speaking and persuasion, problem solving, presentation skills, creativity, and critical thinking, all while having fun as a team.
The team's goal is to raise $10,000 to fund this project and future programs for Central Ohio youths, who are interested in learning about how to become an entrepreneur. All proceeds will go into a fund managed by Junior Achievement of Central Ohio and Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus that will be used to extend the "JA Company Program" to more youths in the central Ohio region.
