We must begin to speak with the strong voice of labor that made this holiday so
important to our nation.
We need our President to fight for outcomes that meet high
expectations. Mr. President, go big or stay home!
Recent headlines have pointed to the widening gap between white and black wealth. Below is a set of principles that are worth repeating. These principles can be followed by anyone, and if followed will create a foundation for wealth, and help close the Black wealth gap.
This is
the stage that was set for the first Black President.
Our country is now facing a crisis of global identity and our role in the world -- from our position as the largest economy in the world, to global policeman, to humanitarian provider, to global statesman. This time in history requires a new form of leadership -- not cowboy diplomacy, nor corporate tycoon, nor military conqueror.
In this current crisis, there won't be another civil rights movement to address our needs, but there can be a civil action movement to address issues at the grass roots level which are having a disproportionately negative impact on the Black community.
The eighth National Black Business Month celebration will take place during August 2011. During this month, consumers and institutions are encouraged to visit and support at least one Black-owned business on each of the 31 days of August.
The Million Father March has grown out of recognition of the power of male involvement in the education of Black students. A father who actively participates in the educational and social development life of a child is invaluable and irreplaceable.
There are very good econmic reasons for supporting Black businesses. We need to understand that every time we look at the unemployment statistics and the numbers go up, we are closer to being included. We should also recognize that when Black-owned businesses are successful, studies show that 70% of their employees are Black. I should support Black businesses that help address Black unemployment - BECAUSE I AM BLACK.
Ask almost anyone this question, and the knee-jerk answer is almost always "No!" However, our behavior often tells a different story.
