CELEBRATE KWANZAA
From Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, these days are dedicated to the seven principles - Nguzo Saba - focusing on African philosophy that encompasses the mutual and interactive relationship with family, community, and the world.
We invite you to consider with us the principles of Nguzo Saba over the next seven days. These principles represent values that can strengthen our lives, our families, and our communities, whether you celebrate Kwanzaa or not.
This celebration introduces timeless principles rooted in our African heritage that provide an anchor for our sojourn in the global society. If you are a baby boomer or a member of the millennial generation, consider these principles as you prepare for 2016 and the years to come.
Kujichagulia: Self-Determination begins with me.
Are your circumstances defining who and what you are? Each of us must determine to define ourselves and control our responses to the circumstances we encounter -- with just one minute.
I've only just a minute,
Only sixty seconds in it.
Forced upon me, can't refuse it,
Didn't seek it, didn't choose it,

THE SECOND DAY OF KWANZAA
KUJICHAGULIA
Kujichagulia (koo-gee-cha-goo-LEE-ah) means self-determination
and is the second day of Kwanzaa. On this day, we pledge to define ourselves, to NAME ourselves, to create for ourselves, and to speak for ourselves, instead of being defined, named by, created for and spoken for by others. On this day we design for ourselves a positive future and then vow to make that
prophecy -- that DREAM -- a self-fulfilling one.
