This phenomenon points out how a "business plan" can take over an industry segment. What the Koreans have done is "execute a well-developed business plan." Now, we see posts about how we can "take back our hair care business." Guess what folks? There needs to be a "business plan."

Emotional rhetoric won't do it. Complaints and protests won't do it. Only disciplined, well-developed business planning will "preserve what's left" of the Black presence in the Black Hair Care Market. It appears that we can't learn the lessons of "aggregation, distribution, and scale."

Each major player in the Black Hair Care industry, from Madame C.J. Walker up to Joe Dudley, has struggled alone -- generally competing against other Black companies -- and now against the Korean juggernaut. Revelon and Clairol, and the Korean incursions have grown to be national and global players through aggregation, merger, and acquisition -- at every level of the business cycle: manufacturing, distribution, and retail. We seem not to have learned anything from these examples. We are still complaining about how we can't work together, while the koreans are eating our lunch, and the major hair care companies are buying out the remaining players. How soon will it be before one of them buys Dudley? When he and his family get tired of fighting the battle alone.

Single proprietorships cannot compete against the money and networks that others build to compete against, and take away our market share. Perhaps desparation will cause some of the remaining players to combine resources just to survive. It does not appear that we will be able to take back this market with emotional appeals, or the current strategies that got us into this situation in the first place.

I have watched the videos, and heard the outcries. I haven't seen any "busines proposals" that represent successful strategies on the part of Black entrepreneurs in this industry. All the evidence indicates that it is a "growth industry." That is why others are "investing," and aggregating their resources to take it away from us.

I hope the major Black players remaining get the wake up call and start talking to each other about how we can "survive together" or we will surely be defeated standing and fighting alone.

We are now talking the same language. The key word in your statement is alone. This debacle is a perfect example of an opportunity wasted. This should not be left solely on the backs of the owners of these shops, but on the backs of the black community. This is a fail safe investment (with a proper business plan) and the financial backing to pull it off. Black financial backing or black re-investment. Hair care superstores black owned and operated supplied by manufacturers funded by private black investments. The only losers in this scenerio would be the Koreans. We can even print the catologs in jive.

Hello everyone here at Izania
Just so you are aware My name is Mike T. and I have been invited to this community by a friend which via his profile I discoverd this site many months ago and never joined and happy now that I have taken the time to participate. That said I was informed of this Post and thought I'd make you aware of a few Conference cals to discuss this problem (one of which you can hear by clicking on the link next to "SOLUTION" below which we feel can be fixed but it will take individuals (more so outside of the Industry from my vantage point for those in the Industry seem somewhat defeated remember they allowed it to get this way and never executed any plan to block or fix it so what does that say)

By the way I got involved not due to any experience in the Black Hair Care Industry but via my current postion as EVP of a National Distributor of Prepaid Credit Cards and other Products to Retail Stores throughout the USA and we have an Independent Sales force that targets this market and that is where my experience lies (and if any of you would like to join our Company click on the link at the bottom of this Post or pass along to someone you know who may have interest) I only mention this for I have extreme knowledge of the "Distribution Network" via "Brick and Mortar" and "Network Marketing" both of which have their Plus and minuses and I know both!

They say you must know your history before you know where you are going and I'll just give you a few bullet points

1. Rosa Parks 1 woman who refused to sit in the back of the bus started a boycott that started a "Movement" throughout America that created "Civil Rights" (more of a Socialistic, Political Movement that was very needed at the time that created the liberty's we share now even you using the internet equally like anyone else on the www (World Wide Web) - This "Movement is purely "ECONOMIC"
2. Napster a little company almost crippled the Music Industry an Industry with a Distribution Stronghold on Record and CD Distribution and Sales no other Industry is Distribution ore entrenched than the Music Industry yet Music Downloads via the "Internet " created by "Napster" almost crippled this Behemoth Distribution Industry to the point where they had to partner with "Napster" in order not to have their breakfast, lunch and dinner eaten. (Do you think the Distribution of Music is larger than the Distribution of Hair by the Koreans? You bet it is)
3. The Internet is the most powerful medium in the 20th/21st Century and Black Hair is not only relagated to the USA it's WORLD WIDE so I agree with Thuso that a well "Developed and Strategic Business Plan" will be the only way we as Blacks can even think of penetrating a Market that has been dominated by the Koreans who executed a well developed "Brick and Mortar" Business Plan which like the Music Industry has many "holes" in it in the 21st Century if you ask me. (remember Michael Dell, Bill Gates and I think the founders of Google all left College due to the "Power of the Internet" and how they all knew the speed and Power of this vehicle could each have their businesses grow to the levels they attained and most of it was achieved through you got it "THE INTERNET" not "Brick and Mortar" (by the way just as a Quiz can anyone here name me a business that was started in the last 5 or so years that used the old "Brick and Mortar" Model and became as big as the following:

1. Ebay
2. Amazon.com
3. Google,
4. Microsoft
5. Myspace
6. Craigs list.

I could go on but I'll wait for your reply's

I'll just say that when I learned to Box a Trainer once told me every "Champion" has a weakness you have to key in on it and exploit it and I'll just give you one example Evander Holyfield exposed the fact that Mike Tyson was a "Slugger" not a "Boxer" ever since that obvious explotation of Mike Tyson's approach other "Boxer's" became less fearful of Mike - well I'll just say in any Strategic Business Plan you must identify weaknesses of your opponent and we have internally Identified many that the Koreans have all I will not list in a Public Forum but the most obvious is "Language" and that can be used against you.

The following is just an update and somewhat of a Progress Report as to where we are and to give you some basic insight as to what has taken place. We haven't initiated our "Business Plan" yet for we are making sure "Strategically" that all things are in place such as

1. Financing
2. Business Plan
3. Talent (which we are attracting to this "Economic Movement" that's right this is not Socialistic or Political)

Below the line you will see a link next to "SOLUTION" where we feel that vs Black Leaders, the Oprah's, Magic Johnsons, Bob Johnsons and Michael Jordans who all have the Financial where with alls to attack this may at some point decide to back this but even they would have to see some "Strategic In Roads" made prior to "Throwing their Money to the Wind" so our Plan is built simply off people like you reading this Post who can Invest (and I use that word for although this is a "Movement" we are not asking you to "March" for "FREE" INVESTMENT means you will earn a Return on your Investment for this is a $20 Billion Dollar Industry - so click on the link and let us know which of the 3 ways you would like to "Invest"

1. Talent
2. Money
3. Referrals

If you don't have the Time and Talent to Invest then you surely have some Money if you say you don't have any money to Invest then surely you can copy and paste this and pass it along via your address book and the Internet to someone who you feel can Invest one of the 3 so we feel everyone Black can contribute and Invest something.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

There have been discussions to make this a very lucrative Opportunity for those who wish to get involved. The following so that you are aware is what is being done

As I stated there is much work to be done for we will be building a Distributorship that will have 3 Divisions from which one can derive Income and if they decide to become an Investor will secure ROI from all 3 areas

1. Retail (Brick and Morter)
2. Online Wholesale / Retail
3. Network Marketing

We are preparing a Rough Draft Business Plan to target the Network Marketing area since the Retail (Brick and Mortar) and Online Stores are already developed via BOBSA and we don't have to reinvent the wheel other than get a copy of the specifics as it pertains to costs and profits.

1. Rough Draft Business Plan (Network Marketing Division) (Almost Complete)
2. Profit Margins (so that we can devise data for Sales Projections / Profits - there looks to be enough Profit Margin in many of the Products to confirm why the Koreans jumped into this business)

3. Contact with Karl Guthrie Attorney to coordinate a call with the Accountant to figure out the best Return on Investment based on the Costs and Profits for each of the above divisions secured from BOBSA - Final Call Next week 8/25

4. Conference Call amongst Core personnel to discuss formal formulation of the Corporation (probably next week after the above has been coordinated)

5. We have secured Forms from many people around the USA confirming their "Area of Interest" of involvement each will be notified of the next Conference Call which should be scheduled the week after Labor Day and the above has been completed so that they can hear definitive Plans as well as $$$ to be Earned!

If you haven't filled out your "Area of Interest" to be involved click on this link and submit your Form as soon as possible

SOLUTION: = http://www.masterpiecegroup.com/CAD.htm

6. After coordinatiion of the call between Attorney, Accountant and myself devising the Best Agreement and Plan for ROI there will be an announcement of a Conference Call to roll this out so that we can then develop strategy's and target markets with everyone's efforts to get the word out to Raise the Capital required this will be a Marketing call to to develop ways that we can market the solicitation of Private Funding from a variety of sources off the top of my head individuals, Hair Salons, other Entrepreneurs, Sports Celebrities, Politicians, etc.

7. After which we will then target what I suspect will be a ton of different areas Online (Connecting Black, Black Voices, etc. Offline, Organizations, Newspapers, Magazines Ads, Phone calls etc.) to Raise the Capital needed to begin penetrating the Market

8. Being that most of our initial efforts will be Onine we will have to develop Powerpoint Presentations for the folllowing

a. Investors to view to get further Details and info about Industry, our Plans, Their Return on Investments etc. This Powerpoint will be key to explaining our Mission, Goals and how we plan to attack and accomplish so that the Investors feel their money will be recouped. The Powerpoint Presentation (which will save the redundancy of many people saying the same thing over and over again can be password protected so anyone viewing will have to go through one source to view - ergo weeding out the Koreans from viewing) along with the Spreadsheet showing Projections and Profits will be the key to people eventually Investing online which is how Barry and I envision most investors will facilitate their transaction NATIONWIDE and this will be developed by or IT divison ergo an Investor will have a Terms and Conditions to the Investors Agreement online confirming they have an Agreement via their submission of funds which they will have a copy of online or can print out and a record of receipt for submission of funds. Again an automated process.

9. Investors Agreement is being prepared and should be ready by next week for online development along with Powerpoint so that the initial round 1 commitments and initial funding can be secured in order to start paying the initial expenses it will take to setup the 3 Divisions.

10. Just an FYI for those who might of thought that due to no Conference Call this past week that it had fizzled out - quite the contrary it's simply the "QUIET BEFORE THE STORM" just keeping you informed. Our projected date to have all setup and functioning is Oct 15, (or thereabouts) we will have all setup in time for Black Women to purchase Hair Care Products this upcoming 4th Quater and Holiday Season (Thanksgiving, Xmas, New Year's) from more Blacks than you've ever had choices from before - Trust and believe that - until then enjoy your Summer ! For those who submit the above "Area of Interest Form - you will be notified of our next Conference Call - we have much work to do!

DON'T SAY WE DIDN'T INFORM YOU

Be sure to click the "Area of Interest' Link above if you have any Interest in earning a portion of this $20 BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY for the time to get involved is on the Ground Floor and that's NOW! !

I remain Informatively yours,

I say that as the people that are the main source of their income we need to stock pile what you need for a stand off.
Then go to our leaders on this subject and have them explain to all of the owners of every business thats benefiting from our black earned dollars and say if you dont show us how to get some of these products at the" price your buying them for" so we can make some money to keep in our communities your going to have to sit around your stores and put perms and curls on eachother .
And by the way when are those "Blood sucking Pirates" that take our money going to put some back in the hood?
Like Mr. Ranford Flemming The former owner of our only real Black newspaper that we did'nt support in KC MO" once issued a plea "Will a real Black Leader Please Stand Up".
