Victim Theology: Bearing the Weight of the Transgressions of Others

ImageHolding onto regret is like dragging the weight of the past with us everywhere we go. It drains our energy, leaving less available for life in the present because we are constantly feeding an old issue. This attachment can cause illness the same way watering a dead plant creates decay. We know that something new and beautiful can grow in its place if we only prepare the soil and plant the right seeds. We also know that we create our lives from our actions and our actions are based on what we think and believe, so dwelling on the past may actually recreate a situation in our lives where we are forced to make the same choice again and again.

Who Are We Trying to Fool?

ImageI like listening to my husband's stories of his childhood in the Bronx and he loves holding court telling them to me. One of my favorites is the time his father called him "sugar-coated" when he was a young man. I've since watched my husband "work a room," schmoozing everybody within reach, and I distinctly remembered when he schmoozed me – staying on my trail for two whole years before asking me out for a first date.

He also said his father would often say to him, "Who you trying to fool?" when he flipped from his everyday mode to his sugar-coated mode. Somehow, children never understand that their parents tried everything they try to get away with with their own parents; and they always, somehow, seem to know when a kid is putting on airs; putting up appearances under certain circumstances, all the while hoping that that it will lead to the conclusion or result they desire.

The Hearts of Black Folk

We Might Overcome... Some Day.

Says Willo5899 on AOL’s Black Voices: Black Christians are the ones who give racism a weapon. First they vote in a guy, a republican, who could care less about them or any black causes. When republicans are in office, it is every man for him self. Jesus or no Jesus. Ronald Reagan could not have gotten into office except he mentioned God. Black Christians love that. The blacks ran to the poles, voted him in, he in return cut all the black caucus' out funded by the government. His slogan, "America got it's confidence back."  From who?  Blacks. Did the black Christians learn anything?  No, double No.
